FAQs
What does Tristar Land Management mainly do?
We have been making your West Tennessee neighbors’ pieces of dirt all they can be for going on 10 years. We are in the business of reclaiming overgrown land, constructing ponds/lakes, designing and creating roads and trails, and overall improving the usability of your land.
Do you charge for estimates?
No we do not charge for estimates- they are free.
How does the process work and how do you charge for what you do?
Every job is unique. We will come to your property and give you a written estimate that details what we believe it will take to get the work done. We will also outline what equipment will be used and the rate per hour charged. We do our best to estimate the time that will be required and should the estimate not be sufficient to finish the job we will give you advanced notice that more work will be required and let you decide how you would like for us to proceed. Before work begins we will ask you to sign the estimate and give us a deposit so we can book the job on our master work calendar.
Are you bonded and insured to do the type of work you do?
Yes. Tristar Land Management carries the required amounts and types of insurance. We are happy to provide our customers with proof of insurance upon request.
What does an amphibious excavator do that a regular excavator cannot do?
Our machine creates minimal impact in wetland areas and allows us to clean out ditches and to maintain existing wet areas. We can also control unwanted vegetation and clean out debris from storms. We recommend that all customers talk with the appropriate governmental agencies to be in compliance with all federal/state/local rules.
Do I have to buy the material used on my job from Tristar Land Management?
No. Many times when we install roads and driveways the property owner wishes to purchase the rock/materials to be used. We will help you decide the best route and facilitate the job being done the best way possible. We work with many different vendors that we are happy to recommend to you.
Do you do anything other than equipment work?
Yes. We have many years of experience at helping you design your property for ATV usage, equestrian trails, and timber management.
Our owner, Lee Johnson, is a CPA who is versed in helping landowners and farmers navigate the changing landscape of using property as an investment and the tax and financial planning benefits of doing so. Many of our customers want to maximize the value of their land holdings and we can help you do just that.
How do I figure out what I need to do versus what I want to do on a budget?
We are very versed in helping landowners prioritize what needs to be done first. Many of our customers are repeat customers and have us back again and again to help them complete the next phase of the master plan we helped them create. Let us help you lay out your overall goals and we will give you a timeline and a budget that should allow you to create your dream piece of property.
Do you offer financing?
We are currently looking into offering a turn-key financing solution for our customers and hope to unveil it in the next few months.
What issues could arise after my job begins?
When you are clearing property or digging in the dirt unforeseen things happen. Our operators have decades of experience running equipment but occasionally run into surprises. For instance when digging ponds many times we run into sand pockets or other debris where someone in the past buried materials that will need to be removed. We many times will dig test holes to see what type soil exists on the property but surprises do occur. Weather also plays a large role in the speed at which we are able to work and finish jobs.
